An Open Book Photography: a guide to my favourite wedding venues in Yorkshire, ideal for intimate wedding days.

Wedding photography at The Priests House and Old Chapel, near Skipton

As a wedding photographer in Yorkshire for over a decade, I have worked at a wide variety of wedding venues, from stately homes, to boutique hotels, from National Trust wedding venues to countryside inns. And throughout that time, I have got to know how venues work and, pertinent to me, how they are with photographers. Because being honest, this does matter! And it affects whether I would like to work at a specific wedding venue again and, in turn, whether I would recommend the venue to couples who ask – because they do ask and I do advise.

Wedding photography is the service on a wedding day that stays with the couple for a large part of the day; it is the most personal aspect of a day in that I am stepping into people’s lives and capturing all the emotions that are wrapped up in a wedding day. I have seen and experienced a lot in that decade of being a wedding photographer here in Yorkshire and it’s always a privilege.

Working across the county, I have experienced beautiful towns and countryside villages as a wedding photographer including Skipton, gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, Ilkley with its famous moorlands and woodlands and areas of North Yorkshire where the scenery really does take your breath away.

So here is my guide – based on my experience at these venues – to some of my favourite wedding venues in Yorkshire and why they are so ideal for the intimate wedding day or for couples striving for that personal service and attention to detail.

I am starting this series of blogposts with The Priests House which is just outside Skipton and set against the backdrop of Upper Wharfedale and the spectacular scenery that this beautiful area of the Yorkshire Dales holds.

I have captured numerous wedding days here and every single one is delivered by the venue team with care and attention to detail. As a photographer at The Priests House I have always been warmly welcomed, well looked after and I have witnessed my couples being at their absolute happiest there on their wedding day.

My top five elements of The Priests House include:-

  • the atmospheric ceremony chapel
  • the historic Barden Tower as a backdrop
  • the helpful and supportive venue team
  • intimate and spacious in equal measure
  • the beautiful surrounding countryside

Communication between a venue and a photographer is also key on a wedding day and I cannot fault The Priests House in how they keep me up to date with any changes of timings, logistics or anything specific I need to know during the day. They are always ready with a helping hand for both guests and suppliers alike.

With the intimate wedding days at The Priests House, my style of wedding photography fits perfectly with how personal this venue is and how they do things in a relaxed but efficient way. It’s always my pleasure to work there and I’m really pleased to be a recommended wedding photographer at this beautiful location close to Skipton, in the Yorkshire Dales.

Until next time,
Kathryn x
