Micro wedding, intimate wedding, small wedding – however you wish to describe them, these kinds of wedding days are very special to capture as a wedding photographer at venues such as The Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire.
So what is it that makes a photographer of smaller, more intimate weddings feel so connected to this style of wedding?
Well, it’s actually a large part of my business to provide a tailored and really personal service in my wedding photography. And whilst I’ve always applied that approach with both large and small weddings, the more intimate wedding days allow me to emphasise that bespoke wedding photography approach even further.
With my photography for this particular micro wedding at The Devonshire Arms, in Bolton Abbey, my couple had been together a long time and so this day was all about recording their wedding in a relaxed and natural way because it was an elegantly paired back day simply for closest family and friends. This was all about a celebration of the two of them.
My personality fits into a small wedding really well. I am unobtrusive in how I work and I also like to get to know people – which enables me to spend time with them in a more concerted way than perhaps a larger wedding allows. I like to help people feel at ease – in fact I would say that this is probably the most significant thing when it comes to photographing small weddings. The last thing anyone needs is an overbearing photographer who dominates the day! And that absolutely isn’t me. Photographing a small wedding means obviously there are less people, which means, as a photographer, I am more visible. So it’s really important that I blend into the day and help the day run smoothly and comfortably – whilst capturing special moments of course!
And weddings in the Yorkshire Dales don’t get much more special than at The Devonshire Arms – it’s always lovely to be a recommended wedding photographer there and to have the opportunity to step into people’s lives at such intimate and personal times.
My work as a micro wedding photographer at venues such as The Devonshire Arms in Yorkshire has, for over a decade, always been about providing an excellent level of service to my clients. Of course, the photographs need to tell a story, be beautifully captured and finished and be a lifelong memory for my clients – bringing about emotion when they are looked back upon, but my work is so much about my connection with people – and that really is the essence of my work and my business. When I make people feel relaxed and like I’m with them simply as a supportive friend on the day, that gives me great satisfaction and it’s what a lot of my client feedback is based on.
